We departed from Atlanta Saturday May 10 @ 4:00pm, and Arrived in Joburg(Johannesburg) @ 4:00pm Sunday May 11. It was an 18 hr flight.(The time zone here is 6 hours ahead of America!)
It has been kinda hard for all of us trying to get over the Jet lag, and getting used to the time, so for the first 3 days we have had a slightly different schedule to get us used to the time as well as get us oriented with what we will be doing and the culture we are working within.
So far we have moved into the house we are staying at and have been to the dorm, Majuba, which is an all male residence hall, the girls have two different residence halls they are going in. We are working in pairs as we go into the dorm(or "res" as they call it) to minister. My partners name is Jorge, and he is a student at Augusta State Univeristy, who I have been friends with for 2 years now. We are reaching out to the guys in Majuba on floors 9-11, and working with South Africa students who became Christians just last summer, there names are, Vuyo, KB, and Yandisa. We will be going on the campus Tuesday through Friday from 3:00-10:00! But after meeting just a few of the people we are both very excited to go into the res and begin reaching out to the guys here. All the people here are very kind and open to talking to us, and very much like America everyone has at least heard of God, but just don't quite understand the full Gospel.
So far it has been very encouraging to meet those who became Christians just this past year from the CCP that came down last summer. It's been great to see how excited about the gospel these guys are and how mature they seem just after a year of conversion. These guys are also a part of our focus here, to try and further equip them to spread the Gospel futher. But I feel that we will learn alot from them too, and their heart for the Gospel to go forth! It's incredible to see our God work in the lives of people from completely different backgrounds.
I hope to give yall some more details next week, as well as put up pictures! Until then, Thank you for your thoughts and Prayers!
Things to be Praying for:
1. That we would be bold in sharing the Gospel, and Culturally relevant, as the thought process of people down here can seem very different from our own.
2. Pray for our relationships with the Christians here that we could work as one Body under Christ, Specifically, Jorge and myself along with Vuyo, KB, and Yandisa.
3. Our girl's leader, Eileen has not been able to come, because of a paperwork mix-up, this has been very saddening and hard, especially on her Husband Matt(our CCP Team leader), So pray that the Lord would working in this situation, as well as on her and Matt's heart to find comfort in Christ. Also pray for Stephanie who is on Staff here with Campus outreach, as she will be taking on Eileen's role for some time, until things get sorted out.
