Ministry in Majuba

Once again Majuba is the name of the male Resident hall where the guys on our team are going along side the few Christians that live there in order to make an Impact for Christ. But since it is exam time for the students here, the school has made a new rule...No visitors past 6:00 pm. This has had an effect on our time there, since previously we would go into the dorm fro 3:00-9:45, and are able to really put in a lot of time trying to build relationships, and have conversations. Now we are trying to go to campus earlier(around 1:oo pm) But the only problem is that we don't really get a break until night time. So pray that we find our strength in the Lord(Isaiah 40:29-31) And that this would not hinder our Ministry!
We had another Bible study this past week on Matthew 7:15-23, and challenged the men there what it meant to truly know Jesus, and how one can look at there life and see fruit from the Spirit. Pray that Kevin, Tyler, Jorge, and myself could follow-up with these guys and really continue to explain the gospel to them, as well as that the Lord would be moving in their hearts to see their place before Him.
Here are some specific names to be praying for in the Bible study, and in the dorm that we have contact with: Henry, Kanyiso,(very close to giving their life to the Lord, just a little afraid of giving up control and desire to know more about Him) Aks, Sbu, Kiki, Doc, X, Jack, Anathi, Java, Vuyo, Gift, Thabo, Tebza, Lwazi, Alfred, Master P, Musa, Terrence, Hamilton, Teapo, Lucky, Bongs, Jabo(of these guys some may be Christian...or just exposed to the Church culture and know the answers, some openly admit that they are not.) So another thing to pray for is just thank the Lord for these men that are being exposed to His gospel. A lot of them were already contacted by the Christians that we are laboring along side. Also pray that they would have a strong desire to know God more and search for him.
I'd like to ask that you continue praying for the JWC(Joint Winter Conference, a 4 day, 3 night camp) where there will be many talks given and is a great opportunity for all of us to grow closer to the Lord. We are trying to get a lot of these guys to come, because of the things that they can learn there, but the problem is it cost R500(rand) Which is about $60-$70, and is a lot for these men and women. Money is very tight for them. So for them to come is a big commitment on their part we want to help them as much as possible, but want them to make at least a small commitment(from past experience, those who don't make some monetary commitment, but get it all paid for...don't come). So Pray that many would be able to come, and have their Hearts changed by God.
Thanks again!

Making Progress

Howzit!

“Howzit” Means “Hello, how’s it going?” And is the main greeting we use here.

This week has been our first “normal” week, where we are spending a lot more time in the dorms. So far it’s once again been amazing to see the work God has already done in preparing the hearts of these men to hear and ask questions about our Lord. Monday Kevin(another member of our CCP team, who also goes to GSU) had the privilege to lead a Bible study of about 12-14 guys(most who are not Christian) in the dorm. We spoke on John 4 and our ending question to the group was “Where do you seek satisfaction?” It has been good, because Jorge(my ministry partner) and I have been able to go around to some of the rooms and follow-up with some of the guys who came to the Bible study and really get to talk to them one-on-one. We are also trying to recruit these men that are Spiritually interested to come to a small 4 day camp, called the Joint Winter Conference(or JWC for short, remember it’s winter time here!) At JWC there will be many talks given that are evangelical as well as help grow those that are already believers.
This is the last normal week of classes for the students here, and then they start an “exam month” which is where they may have any where from 0-4 exams in one week. So the challenge has been trying to talk to guys who aren’t studying!
Yesterday we visited the Apartheid museum and got to see a lot of the history of South Africa. It was only around 1994 when the apartheid ended. During the apartheid the black’s rights were limited, but now they are able to enjoy equal rights with all the Europeans living here. But racism is still prevalent in some places. For instance there have been quite a few xenophobic attacks on Zimbabweans that are living here, in Durbin, and in Cape Town. It is almost surreal to be so close to these attacks, attacks on people just because they are from Zimbabwe. A few of the people that live in the dorms we are reaching are from Zimbabwe, one boy, Henry, says he’s afraid to leave campus at all. While we aren’t ourselves in danger continue to pray for our safety, but include these people who are truly being targeted.

We have about 4 more weeks on campus here; These are some things that you can be praying for me, Jorge, and our team as a whole.

1-That we would have discernment who to speak to, as there are a lot of guys and not a lot of time! That we would use the time we have wisely.
2-That God would grant us favor in the eyes of the men and women here, so that we could build quality relationships with them.
3-That I, Jorge and our whole team would have hearts that are broken before the Lord and that truly Love the Lord, and desire to make him known, with our thoughts, words, and actions.(Ps. 51:17, Phil. 1:9-10)
4-That God give us opportunities to have Gospel conversations with those that He has prepared.
5-That the men and women we would talk to would have such a desire to know Christ that they would come to the JWC, pray that there would be little or no barriers for them to come.

Thanks So Much for your prayers!

P.S. if you wish to contact me it’s best to email me at wmobley1@gmail.com, however it may take me a while to respond, we only get internet intermittingly down here, and facebook doesn’t work too well.

Our Theme

Also I wante to let yall know what the Theme of our training will be this summer.

"Lifted High"

It is based off the verse John 3:14-15

"Just as Moses lifted up the sanke in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life."

That is our hope and Pray that in all things Christ be lifted high!

We're in South Africa! Safe and Sound!

We departed from Atlanta Saturday May 10 @ 4:00pm, and Arrived in Joburg(Johannesburg) @ 4:00pm Sunday May 11. It was an 18 hr flight.(The time zone here is 6 hours ahead of America!)

It has been kinda hard for all of us trying to get over the Jet lag, and getting used to the time, so for the first 3 days we have had a slightly different schedule to get us used to the time as well as get us oriented with what we will be doing and the culture we are working within.

So far we have moved into the house we are staying at and have been to the dorm, Majuba, which is an all male residence hall, the girls have two different residence halls they are going in. We are working in pairs as we go into the dorm(or "res" as they call it) to minister. My partners name is Jorge, and he is a student at Augusta State Univeristy, who I have been friends with for 2 years now. We are reaching out to the guys in Majuba on floors 9-11, and working with South Africa students who became Christians just last summer, there names are, Vuyo, KB, and Yandisa. We will be going on the campus Tuesday through Friday from 3:00-10:00! But after meeting just a few of the people we are both very excited to go into the res and begin reaching out to the guys here. All the people here are very kind and open to talking to us, and very much like America everyone has at least heard of God, but just don't quite understand the full Gospel.

So far it has been very encouraging to meet those who became Christians just this past year from the CCP that came down last summer. It's been great to see how excited about the gospel these guys are and how mature they seem just after a year of conversion. These guys are also a part of our focus here, to try and further equip them to spread the Gospel futher. But I feel that we will learn alot from them too, and their heart for the Gospel to go forth! It's incredible to see our God work in the lives of people from completely different backgrounds.

I hope to give yall some more details next week, as well as put up pictures! Until then, Thank you for your thoughts and Prayers!

Things to be Praying for:

1. That we would be bold in sharing the Gospel, and Culturally relevant, as the thought process of people down here can seem very different from our own.

2. Pray for our relationships with the Christians here that we could work as one Body under Christ, Specifically, Jorge and myself along with Vuyo, KB, and Yandisa.

3. Our girl's leader, Eileen has not been able to come, because of a paperwork mix-up, this has been very saddening and hard, especially on her Husband Matt(our CCP Team leader), So pray that the Lord would working in this situation, as well as on her and Matt's heart to find comfort in Christ. Also pray for Stephanie who is on Staff here with Campus outreach, as she will be taking on Eileen's role for some time, until things get sorted out.
